The Science Olympiad fields teams at the local level and reaches over , students per year. These projects have allowed Chandra and other NASA content to be placed in non-traditional venues such as public parks, shopping malls, and metro stations.
Education & Outreach Grants and Prizes | Microbiology Society
These projects address the lack of understanding and awareness of STEM topics in the US, and evaluations of these efforts have shown demonstrable increases in interest and learning gains of these subjects. Moreover, these public science projects have reached underserved audiences such as Spanish speakers and visually impaired through tactile-Braille and audio versions , thus broadening opportunities for engagement with NASA content. To date, these projects have been seen by tens of millions of people, and their impacts and effects have been documented in both scholarly journal articles and government reports as well as in keynote and invited talks at conferences and guest lectures at universities see Reports.
With comprehensive accompanying activities and sustainable websites, these open-access projects allow for deeper learning opportunities for interested visitors. Another project, HTE, places NASA science in a wider context, through local and familiar examples "here" and global examples "there" before moving to cosmic examples from the universe, "everywhere".

The travelling exhibit ran from with stops at dozens of small libraries, as well as community centers, schools and science museums. Large-scale posters with the same content enabled other local organizations to provide content at additional venues. Light: Beyond the Bulb LBTB is an open-source international exhibition program that showcases the incredible variety of light-based science being researched today across the electro-magnetic spectrum from radio waves to gamma rays and across scientific disciplines from microbiology to astronomy.
With the British Pharmacological Society, we have produced a free outreach activity about drug-target interactions.
For use in schools, at science festivals or other events. An interactive activity that explores new genome editing technologies, in particular the possible applications and ethical issues these technologies provide.
Hands-on activities provide a fun, memorable learning experience
The Royal Society of Biology have developed hands-on activity kits, with funding from the Biochemical Society. The kits contain ten activities focussing on health and food security. Find out more.
It also includes a fun exercise you can try at home to make your own fluorescent tagged cells using ultraviolet light. This activity has been created in partnership with the Royal Society of Biology and the Nutrition Society.
If you are interested in participating from any institution , click here to sign up. Registration closes on February 1, Please plan to attend the entire day, as the afternoon session will depend on material presented in the morning. What is public engagement? Engagement can take many different forms, from writing a blog post to visiting a K classroom to advising on public policy.
What will happen at the workshop? We will introduce public engagement, guide participants in creating their own public engagement materials, and connect participants with engagement opportunities.
We will focus on face-to-face public engagement, namely with K12 students, but the materials and skills are widely applicable to other audiences and forms of engagement. We are also pleased to welcome Dr. We will demonstrate that preparing to engage the public can be time efficient by having participants create their public engagement materials during the workshop itself.
Our approach involves directly adapting existing scientific materials, such as manuscripts, talks, posters, or grants, which can be further modified for different ages and audiences.
